Seattle Social Media Club September 2009 Event
September 28th, 2009 · by Timothy Carter · Filed Under: Social Media · Social Networking For Business
Back at the end of June I wrote about my excitement about heading to my first Seattle Social Media Club event. It was an incredible time meeting some amazing people locally who shared the same passion about social media and networking that I have. Now a couple months later and after several physical setbacks on my road to recovery from the car wreck last year, I’m heading to September’s event at Hotel 1000.
In case you’re reading this and are wondering: “What is a social media club?” what better description can I give you than the one given on the national Social Media Club site:
Social Media Club brings together journalists, publishers, communications professionals, artists, amateur media creators, citizen journalists, teachers, students, tool makers, and other interested collaboraters. Essentially the people who create and consume media who have an interest in seeing the ‘media industry’ evolve for everyone’s benefit. We are more than just USERS, we are the reason the tools exist – we are the people who communicate our thoughts
and ideas near and far. . .SMC is now a handful of people managing the global organization on a part time basis, and actively working towards hiring full time staff as SMC files the 501c3 and push the organization further into the global space. Thanks to the efforts of our local leaders, we have grown to over 55 active chapters (40+ in the works) with 10’s of 1000’s of people gathering around the world.
Social media and social networking are great…but sitting around on your laptop or iPhone all day doesn’t replace the powerful connections that happen when you take those online “friendships” offline and meet up in real life!
Here are the details for this month’s Seattle Social Media Club event:
Eight sold out events so far, and our September event will prove to be another memorable discussion. This month’s Social Media Club Seattle meet-up is focused on building and fostering effective communities and brand messages. Join us on September 29 in Seattle at one of Seattle’s finest hotels, Hotel 1000.
As traditional brand messages have become less relevant with the rise in user generated content, the way we communicate to our communities is also changing. SMC Seattle is proud to host Sean Moffitt, the president and founder of Agent Wildfire in Toronto, who will share his insights on effectively building a brand. Sean will look at how brands need to adapt their communication to benefit from the rise in online communities. SMC Seattle couldn’t be more excited to welcome Sean to Seattle for the first time. (Sean’s a huge Seahawks fan so he feels it’s about time).
