Social Media Sites That DON’T Suck!
June 27th, 2009 · by Timothy Carter · Filed Under: Social Media
In the mad frenzied rush in social media this past year, there has been an insidious and infectious virus running rampant…far worse than swine flu…it’s “guru-titis”!
A dastardly thing indeed.
You’ve seen them racing through social networking sites in a vortex of hype and a trail of graffiti tweets like “Increase your Twitter followers by eleventy-billion in seconds a day”! Some people have even nicknamed them as “social media ***bags“! (warning, site is a little off-color) Ouch. LOL But unfortunately, it’s an apt description of inept marketers who haven’t been taught the basics of social media networking online.
They’ve blown all credibility. They’ve built no trust.
Their blogs sites are weak on content but off the scale excessive on shiny, blinking things all over in the hopes you’ll buy something and they’ll make some money.
Fortunately…they fade with time…
So I wanted to share a few of the social media marketing blogs/authors (Twitter ID) that DEFINITELY don’t suck and I follow on my Google Reader feed and on Twitter…in no particular order:

Thank you for the info. I will indeed check out these sites. With your permission I would like to throw in one more site. My mentor Cenay. She definitely should be on your list.

I’ve been somewhat of a late comer to social media (or is that a late early adopter ?? ). At the same time I started looking into affiliate marketing. In my 2 months of seriously studying twitter and the online business models (from crap to fantastic), I’ve finally come to the essence of it for me
- are you a high value proposition twitter-er ie high value service or product with loyalty relationships your aim (and therefore long term relationships)
- are you a low value proposition essentially aiming for volumes of users to convert to sales with no reciprocal relationship
Thanks for your blog entry, I’m developing a keen eye for identifying high value propositions and aiming to find ways to emulate those whom are true service & product providers.
